LEARNING INDONESIAN LANGUAGE THROUGH INDONESIAN CUISINE

Apart from the E-Learning program and ​Virtual Field Trip​​, Wisma Bahasa also offers Cooking Class for its Indonesian language learners who want to learn making Indonesian cuisine. Spend a lot of time at home with family ​during this pandemic would be tedious at some point. Trying a new menu of dishes might just be the solution ​for ​those of you who want to learn Indonesian language and culture. ​You can create new simple dishes directly in your own kitchen​ while being virtually accompanied by a Wisma Bahasa instructor!

Through this program you can get to know various kinds of Indonesian food from traditional dishes to popular dishes. You can also learn the names of traditional Indonesian spices and ingredients. Of course, if you also want to try the recipes on your own at home, you can customize the menu with ingredients available in your city or country.

Here is an example of simple Indonesian dish that you can try at home!

Potato & Tofu Stew

Ingredients :

  • 250 grams potato
  • 2 pcs white tofu
  • 500 ml cooking oil
  • 1000 ml water
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 pcs onion
  • 2 pcs tomato
  • Green onion
  • 5 tbs sweet soy sauce
  • 1 tbs sugar
  • ¼ pcs nutmeg
  • 1 tsp ground pepper
  • 1 tsp salt

Preparation :

  1. Peel the potato, cut into small pieces, soak in the water, fry until half-cooked
  2. Cut the tofu into cubes
  3. Cut the onion, thinly sliced
  4. Cut the tomatoes to 4 pieces.

For seasonings :

Crush the garlic, nutmeg, salt and pepper.

How to cook :

  1. Heat the cooking oil, fry the onion until fragrant.
  2. Put in the seasoning.
  3. Add some water.
  4. Add the sweet soy sauce, & sugar.
  5. Put in tofu cook until the tofu floats.
  6. Put in the fried potato, tomato, and tofu.
  7. Then tomatoes & green onion, bring to a boil.
  8. Ready to serve.

Melalui program ini, Anda bisa mengenal macam-macam makanan Indonesia dari masakan tradisional sampai masakan populer. Anda juga bisa belajar mengenali bumbu-bumbu dan bahan tradisional Indonesia. Tentu saja, jika Anda juga ingin belajar membuatnya sendiri di rumah, Anda bisa menyesuaikan menu makanan dengan bahan-bahan yang tersedia di kota atau negara Anda.

Berikut ini contoh masakan Indonesia yang dapat Anda coba sendiri di rumah!

Semur Kentang Tahu

Bahan:

  • 250 gram kentang
  • 2 buah tahu putih besar
  • 500 ml minyak goreng
  • 1000 ml air

Bumbu :

  • 4 butir bawang putih
  • 1 butir bawang Bombay
  • 2 buah Tomat
  • 3 batang daun bawang
  • 5 sdm kecap manis
  • 1 sdm gula pasir
  • ¼ butir pala
  • 1 sdt merica bubuk
  • 1 sdt garam

Persiapan :

  1. Kupas kentang, potong kecil-kecil, rendam dalam air (supaya tidak berubah warna), lalu digoreng setengah matang.
  2. Tahu dipotong dadu.
  3. Kupas bawang bombay, dicuci, lalu dipotong tipis.
  4. Kupas bawang putih, dicuci.
  5. Tomat dan daun bawang dicuci, lalu dipotong.
  6. Bawang putih, pala, dan merica dihaluskan.

Cara memasak :

  1. Tumis bawang bombay dengan 2 sendok makan minyak goreng sampai harum.
  2. Masukkan bumbu yang sudah dihaluskan.
  3. Masukkan air.
  4. Masukkan kecap manis, tambahkan garam dan gula.
  5. Masukkan tahu, masak sampai mendidih dan tahu mengambang.
  6. Masukkan berturut-turut kentang goreng, tomat dan daun bawang.
  7. Masak sampai mendidih.
  8. Angkat, siap dihidangkan.
